What will be discussed:

As employers seek to make the best use of available resources through the current pandemic, they must consider the possibility of a partial termination before using the forfeitures in their qualified retirement plans to pay for plan expenses. Understanding the rules and standards that apply when determining whether a partial termination occurs and how these standards have evolved during the last year is critical before employers can determine how to handle plan forfeitures. It does appear that Congress considers the pandemic to be an extraordinary set of circumstances that needs to be addressed in the context of partial terminations because it recently provided plan sponsors a limited opportunity for partial termination relief; however, additional regulatory guidance from the IRS is still needed to help plan sponsors take appropriate steps towards complying with the recent congressional relief.

The deadline to register is Monday, February 15, 2021.
